Summary
Beijing
The capital city of China has a whole range of famous attractions. Tiananmen Square, the largest ‘people gathering’ spot on the planet, The Forbidden City, featured in The Last Emperor movie, The Summer Palace and – a couple of hours’ drive from the city – The Great Wall.
Xian
The main reason to visit Xian is the famous Terracotta Warriors museum, but the bustling city centre is also worth a visit with an excellent range of shops. You should also try a Chinese hotpot when in Xian – cook your own fish and meat and mix your own sauces from a great tray of spices brought to the table.
Shanghai
The second largest city in China has ultra modern architectural development but maintains its roots with historical gardens and museums. There’s the Bund to visit, where you can stroll along the embankment and take a river cruise or visit the old town and take tea in a Chinese Tea House. You’ll find shopping malls offering designer goods, flea markets where your bartering skills will soon come to the fore and many small local shops. There are restaurants galore and even if you stick to Chinese cuisine you’ll be spoilt for choice.
There are three ‘must-sees’ in China – the Great Wall, the Terracotta Warriors and the Grand Prix! You can see all of these and a whole lot more on our Highlights of China Tour.
